For the second year running, the MPT is partnering with Fundación Huésped, one of the most important AIDS foundations in Argentina, to celebrate Freddie For A Day in Buenos Aires.

Each afternoon from September 3rd to 7th will see groups of street collectors and their “Freddie” counterparts asking members of the public to support the Freddie For A Day initiative by donning moustaches. But more importantly, they will also be asking the public to sign up to ongoing monthly donations of 30 pesos or more to Fundación Huésped under the slogan “One peso a day”.

Why ask for one peso a day? Because with one peso, Fundación Huésped visit patients who are in state hospitals. With one peso a day, they give free counselling to people with HIV, as well as to their family and friends. With one peso a day, they can give better advice to HIV positive pregnant mothers to avoid transmission to their unborn child. What do you do with one peso a day?

The collection teams will be at work all week between 2pm and 6pm on the following street corners: Lavalle y Reconquista, M.T de Alvear y Florida, Av. Medrano y Av. Rivadavia.

Those who decide to sign up and support the foundation, either on the street or by entering their details online at dona.huesped.org.ar or calling (011) 4776 6464 will receive a copy of the special 25th Anniversary edition of Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé’s classic ‘Barcelona’ album, which will be available worldwide as of Monday 3rd September.

The weeks festivities will culminate in a fan party which will be held in the Palermo district. The evening will include introductions made by local DJ and Queen fan Daisy May Queen, as well as the now almost traditional Freddie costume competition and karaoke. The night will be rounded off by an unmissable concert by the Queen tribute band “Reina”. Members of the band have also signed up to help during the street collections, so you might be able to glimpse them on the street from them in full Freddie regalia.

The party will start at 8.30pm at Uqbar, the hip Palermo live music bar (Cabrera 5569). Fundación Huésped will also be present, screening both a video presentation of their work in the field of HIV/AIDS in Argentina as well as enabling people to sign up and make donations on the night.

A special thank you to the guys and gals of Universal Argentina for their support and enthusiasm, as well as to the team from Fundación Huésped for the fantastic work that they carry out.
