  • The Ed' uses Just Giving to Raise over £1,400 for the MPT
Inspired by others’ pages on Just Giving and determined to show that even a fool can use it to raise money for the MPT, Liz sets out to fund raise by dressing as none other than the legendary Freddie Mercur

When I set out to demonstrate how easy it would be to use Just Giving, I had no idea how generous people would be for the chance to see me ruin my career reputation by dressing up as rock god Freddie for a day! Check me out at: http://www.justgiving.com/Elizabeth-Swanton to see how it’s going.

So off I went, getting hold of my Freddie costume from the guys at Queen On Line (http://www.queenonlinestore.com), enlisting my chums as potential photographers and designers for my flyers…but that was the easy part.
Once I set up my page and sent it out to friends and family, suddenly everything took off – people forwarded my Just Giving page address to their friends and family, my work got hold of the link and colleagues and business contacts alike started donating!

So now amazingly I’m at over £1,400 raised for the MPT, and less than a week to go I must admit I’m getting nervous. Yesterday I had to call some of my clients to let them know that I would no longer be attending the meetings we had arranged as a professional banker, but actually dressed as a professional entertainer. Some of them sounded far from entertained but I’m sure they’ll come round…

Equally I now view my companions on the train into work with trepidation, as I have no idea how they will react to being crammed in next to my giant inflatable microphone and stereo, not to mention my photographer.

I suddenly have a lot more compassion for the people trying to hand me flyers while on my commute as I now know that will be me in six days time, hoping that people will take one, log onto the MPT and register with the site to enter our prize draw of signed goodies!

So wish me luck, just a few days to go to try and raise even more before Freddie takes Canay Wharf and the City by storm (hopefully)!
