I go to Esher High School, which is located just outside of Esher High Street in Surrey. We at Esher High School are a performing arts specialist school so it’s only natural that we regularly get involved with theatre companies and put on shows. This year my school decided that they would put on We Will Rock You, this is a great opportunity for our school because this musical is fun, fresh, modern, exciting visually and it appeals to teenagers.

I saw the show in late 2008 so when I heard that our school was doing it, I was thrilled. I auditioned and got the role of Madonna, which I was a little sceptical about but as soon as we saw the show again, I was so looking forward to it!! The role of Madonna is so much fun, he (yes, he is a he!) is part of the bohemians and obviously, I get to wear the infamous cone Bra! We are currently about 3 weeks away from doing the actual performance which is nerve racking but still exciting!

I felt that putting on this production would be a great opportunity to raise money and awareness about the Mercury Phoenix Trust, which is the charity that is sported by the London Company of We Will Rock You. I found out about this charity by watching a YouTube video done by Becky and Sally. They soon wanted to do more for the charity so they decided to do a walk for them which are when I realised what this charity actually did for people with AIDS and HIV. I soon approached my Drama teacher and asked her about this and soon after that the idea was approved. We are looking forward to doing this musical and its going to be so much fun!
