Started in 1995, CORA’S very first overseas funding was from the Mercury Phoenix Trust in 1997 and we have been funding this dedicated grass root not-for-profit organisation since then. They have gone from strength to strength initiating around 1,000 HIV/AIDS education and awareness programmes and in 2008 CORA won the Best Social Service Award in Tamil Nadu for their work with children infected and affected by AIDS. They roll out their very successful HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention and control programmes which target the high risk behaviour group of commercial sex workers and truck drivers as well as construction workers, unorganised labourers, students etc. They provide counselling for behaviour change, educate on safe sex practices, facilitate STD clinical services, intensively promote condom use and conduct training programmes for grass root village health workers, as well as giving care and support for PLWAs and doing exhibitions in the Tiruvannamalai district. They are terrific, take a look!
