We have made an exciting discovery. It has become apparent that the best and most painless way to walk miles and miles, is to take ourselves off to London for three days, put on boots and shoes that we would never dream of training in, and walk aimlessly from theatre to theatre, wide eyed and without a care!
Yes, that’s what we did this week, and although the aim wasn’t in fact to get in any training whilst we were there, we found ourselves, (as is usual when we go to London), walking a long way! Our feet probably wouldn’t be quite so achey if we hadn’t been doing so in heels, but the fact that we were able to get a good deal of walking done, whilst indulging ourselves in the world of the West End made us very happy indeed!
In between trekking around what felt like the entire perimeter of London, we managed to catch three shows – ‘Chicago’, ‘Oliver!’ and most relevant to the Mercury Phoenix Trust, ‘We Will Rock You’. Three shows in three days – we’d say we did pretty well really! And even better, we were able to see two out of the three of our favourite musical theatre performers too! Ruthie Henshall in Chicago who was unsurprisingly amazing! And Kerry Ellis in her new role as Nancy in ‘Oliver!’ – phenomenal! Oh how we love her! But alas, Mazz Murray is on holiday this week and so we weren’t able to see her as Killer Queen in We Will Rock You – but maybe when we arrive at the Dominion Theatre on 24th September, we’ll catch her then! As always, the show was brilliant - but hey, she puts the ‘Mazz’ in ‘A’mazz’ing!’ ;)
We’ve just seen on the MPT website that the Dominion Theatre is now officially supporting the Trust – which is great! That gives us an excuse to keep going back (not that we needed one!)
So now we’re home and back to reality! Somehow walking around the streets of Solihull and Birmingham isn’t quite as dazzling as walking around the West End of London. However, we are well aware that September will creep up on us and we have to be completely prepared – fitness wise, so we’ll be out training again from tomorrow! (Post London blues does not make for good training!)
Sponsorship is a little slow at the moment – but that’s to be expected really. It’s bound to come in fits and starts. We’re looking in to how to get more publicity – and therefore more sponsorship and managed to get ourselves into our local paper last week which was great. Also, the UK editor of Broadwayworld.com asked us to write her an article about our quest to be put up on their website. We’re not sure if and when she will use it, but we’ll keep you posted!
Any other ideas are always welcome!
Anyways, that’s about it for this week really. Keep a look out on our youtube channel as we’ll be posting a new video in the next couple of days! J
Much Love
